sun, no sand, sea and minke whale
this post is more than 2 weeks late. anyways, forgive me as i am adjusting to my "tai tai" lifestyle in the land of propaganda.
Recap: Diving at Similan Islands, Surins Islands and Richelieu Rocks
Leads: Dive Buddy as S.D.B aka Sor(1) Da(3) Bia(4) Master, she can eat at least 20 sugared SDB in a day, owner of dive boat as L.B aka Lao(3) Ban(3), wife to owner of dive boat as L.B.N aka Lao(3) Ban(3) Niang(2), MV BM as Motor Vehicle Black Manta, myself as goondu
Pseudo Leads: W.S as Whale Shark, M.R as Manta Ray
Day 1:
0445am: "Ting Ting Ring Ring", thats how mobile phone alarm sounds like. I rolled off my bed, put on my beach wear get-up, hop on the blue cab and went to pick S.D.B for our maiden LOB.
0730am: "Can passengers S.D.B and goondu, please approach the boarding gate now" S.D.B and myself have forgotten that "GRRR" Airways has a free-seating concept, so we arent supposed to loiter around the shopping zones and wait till the dying seconds to board.
0800am: [Phuket] S.D.B and myself: " Where is our driver? Where is our driver?"
0930am: We found ourselves at Patong Beach. Told to assembled at 5pm. We strolled the quiet lanes for 2nd breakfast *thought only hobbits has 2nd breakfast* Eggs, Bacons, Toasts and weird tasting OJ for less than 100 baht.
We occupied our time combing the streets of Patong Beach, trying weird sticks of bbq-meat, jet-ski and finally rested
ourselves at Rio! where we met mike-gor, our future kantou phuket contact :D *S.D.B had a free bottle of S.M beer!*
1715pm: They are here! I yelled! S.D.B was busy taking photos of the pristine beach. Wah! L.B is very short leh! *I muttered to myself*
1900pm: MV BM and Dive Briefing! L.B is very Lor(1) Sor(1). He goes on and on about not getting his mattresses wet, no food in cabins, no wet bodies in common room etc etc. Oh well, i bet this is how he keeps his M.V BM in good shape. according to Deb (who saw a Whale Shark a week ago at Trang), MV BM is very posh! Money well spent, I thought, there would not be a situation where S.D.B will be hugging the toilet bowl after every meal :P
Day 2: After the first dive, MV BM went to pick up more divers. L.B.N came on board and introduced herself. Wah! L.B.N is very tall leh! *I muttered to myself again* Next dive is at Koh Bon, where Manta Rays were spotted on MV BM recent trip. S.D.B and myself geared up promptly and readied ourselves like divers going for war, lining ourselves in two rows on the platform as L.B will shout "Check your air! Check your weight belt! Ready? Go! Go! Go!"
Day 3: Very Hopeful of W.S and M.R! We chant W.S, W.S, W.S, W.S, M.R, M.R, M.R, M.R as we approached each dive, but only to see myself, trying to behave like a M.R :D. Nevermind the absence of W.S and M.R, the diverse population of fishes at Adaman Seas is unbelievable! Schools and Schools of them, Butterfly Fishes, Angel Fishes, Snappers, Barracudas, Ikan Bilis etc - BEAUTIFUL!
Day 4: Still no signs of W.S and M.R. S.D.B suggested she shall get a W.S suit and impersonate as one. I pointed out that she is too small to be a W.S, but she might get away as a juvenile M.R - Just Keep Flapping the Wings! Dozing off as King Kong was playing on, S.D.B tugged me and said "Whale! Whale!" I ran out, tying to look for the whale - but where is it? "There!" someone shouted, there it is, the whale surfaced, showing its black body. The boat crew and oursleves could not keep our eyes off it as MV BM gave chase. After about 25mins of "WOW-ing" and "WAH-ing", MV BM gave up, the whale is just too fast for us! L.B.N said it should be a Minke Whale, consensus reached after discussing with rest of the pro-divers.
Day 5: Our last day on MV BM, S.D.B and myself is salivating at the thought of muching lobster later at night. Btw, there's also a "Night-Dive" at Bangla Reef!
Day 6: Home Sweet Home
